This week in South Carolina basketball
Lamont Paris’ South Carolina basketball team is 10-6 but 0-3 in SEC play. The Gamecocks, though, played much better in their most recent contest against now-No. 1 Auburn. The close loss actually saw USC go up a little bit in the updated NET rankings. Now No. 91, Carolina will turn its attention to two more SEC contests this week. Below is a quick overview of last week and a look ahead at what is to come this week.

South Carolina Gamecocks lose big to Alabama Crimson Tide
South Carolina showed much more fight against No. 5 Alabama (they even had an early lead) than they did in their first SEC contest against Mississippi State. In the end, though, the Gamecocks lost by 20 points to the ‘Tide.
Myles Stute did not play due to blood clots in his leg. He is out indefinitely. Zach Davis took his spot in the starting lineup.
Davis (10), Jacobi Wright (20), Jamarii Thomas (15), and Nick Pringle (13) all scored in double-figures. However, went just 3-14 from the perimeter and struggled on defense as Alabama won big.
Result: South Carolina lost 88-68.
South Carolina Gamecocks nearly upset Auburn Tigers
If the Alabama game was a small step forward, the Auburn contest might be a leap. The Gamecocks outplayed the Tigers most of the game, but poor free throw shooting and some open 3-point jumpers in the 2nd half allowed Auburn to win the game.
Collin Murray-Boyles was the best player on the court. He dominated National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome before an injury forced the latter out of the game. CMB finished with 25 points and seven rebounds. Nick Pringle joined CMB with a strong game; he logged a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double.

What’s coming this week for South Carolina basketball
An 0-3 record against SEC opponents is not how the Gamecocks wanted to start conference play. However, in the best conference in college basketball, things never get much easier. This week, South Carolina has two more games against quality opponents, both on the road.
First, the Gamecocks will travel up to Nashville for a Wednesday night tilt against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Memorial Coliseum. Last week, Vandy lost two games to Mississippi State and Missouri, but the ‘Dores are a good team. The 6:00 p.m. contest will air on SEC Network and stream on the ESPN app.
Then, Coach Paris’ team will travel to Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma also went 0-2 last week with defeats against Texas A&M and Georgia. The Sooners and Gamecocks will play at 4:00 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center. ESPNU will broadcast the contest, while the ESPN app makes it available for streaming.
