South Carolina believes it can still turn it around and 'get that swag back'
It’s been a common phrase used lately. One play, one drive, one tackle away from things being a lot different.
That’s the feeling right now for South Carolina. It knows it’s better than a 2-4 team with six games to go.
“It’s one of those things where you go back and watch the tape, there’s so many times where it was just one more play or just a better play here or we’re in great position, just make the play,” Boogie Huntley said.

There’s a belief amongst the team that they could very well be 6-0 right now if they did some things differently. But they know better than anyone it’s impossible to change the past. The only thing left to do now is move forward.
“We’re 2-4 right now, so we don’t want to be (in this spot),” Nyck Harbor said. “But every day we’ve got to come in with the same mentality, how we came in the very first day that we wanted.”
But it’s easier said than done. There have been a lot of ups and downs for this year’s squad. They believe the key will be to just play better.
“Everybody just got to be on their best. I know we can win these last six games,” Harbor said. “We don’t want to be 2-4 but it is what it is. We can’t look back on the past, we’ve just got to look towards the future.”

One of the things the players feel they need to do is “get that swag back.” And they’ll have to try to get it back quickly with an important two-game road trip starting this weekend.

“When we have played away, we know how to play. Just kind of have to go in there with a chip on our shoulder, attack every single practice like it’s a game. Every single period, every single rep we all take, we just have to really attack it and give our best shot at it,” Huntley said.
There’s only so much a team can fix in a weeks worth of practice. But the Gamecocks believe the little things they haven’t done well with are correctable.
“It does get a little frustrating knowing that it’s us. But just watching the film, you do see that things like one person in a gap and things like that. We can prevent those big plays from happening. So we’re just trying to get a step on those,” Tonka Hemingway said.

At the end of the day, words only go so far, and the players and coaches all know it. Head coach Shane Beamer said they have a good football team and it’s “time for us to show it.”
“We’re tired of not doing enough on Saturdays to help our guys get over the hump,” Beamer said. “We’re one play away on all three phases from just being enough to win that game on Saturday and we didn’t get it done. So we need, starting with me, to do more this week. I didn’t do enough, I need to do more. And I need every person in this facility to have that same mentality.”
