The transfer portal has been open for less than two weeks and South Carolina is once again making some noise.

As of Friday morning, the Gamecocks rank No.12, according to On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal rankings. Of the five players South Carolina has landed so far out of the portal, their combined grade is 78. Of the 13 former Gamecocks to hit the portal, their combined grade is 66.77. For a comparison, last year USC’s combined grade for transfer portal signees was 70.67 with an exit grade of 65.11. That was good enough to finish No.11 in last year’s transfer portal rankings.

On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.

The point is, USC isn’t just landing talented players from the portal. They’re improving as a team as well with who they’re bringing in. To take it a step further, they’re also doing so in a manner that’s focused on addressing areas of need, both for the 2025 season and for the future.

Replacing some of the talent that South Carolina is losing on the defensive line won’t be easy. But so far, adding young talent like DL Jaylen Brown, who still has four years of eligibility remaining, and EDGE Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, the competition and depth has improved tremendously compared to where it was a week ago for the 2025 season. Add in a freak of an athlete like Andrew Jones, who was the co-SWAC Defensive Player of the Year this past season and now USC is starting to slowly fill some of the holes they’ll be looking to replace next season on defense. The best part? There’s a lot of hungry younger players who’ll be gunning for those spots as well to create some healthy competition from spring ball through fall camp.

South Carolina Transfer Portal Resources:

Losing a vital offensive piece like Josh Simon and some depth at tight end? No problem. Kentucky transfer Jordan Dingle will be plugged into a room that will return Brady Hunt, Moe Brown, and rising sophomore star Michael Smith, to go along with true freshman Mike Tyler.

The interior of South Carolina’s offensive line should create plenty of intriguing positional battles. Insert Wake Forest transfer guard Nick Sharpe and those battles should only crank up. Especially considering the fact that in 482 pass blocking snaps, Sharpe has only allowed two sacks.

The Gamecocks still have some holes to fill. But one thing is for sure, just like last year at this time, they’re off to another string start this offseason with the transfer portal.
