After having an entire week to regroup, South Carolina came back to form and picked up a big road win over Ole Miss on Saturday. The Gamecocks left no doubt they’d still be in the AP poll come Monday afternoon.

And with that, South Carolina (22-5, 10-4 SEC) clocked in at No. 18 in this week’s poll.

In the NET rankings and KenPom, the Gamecocks are ranked 48th.

South Carolina’s roadtrip will continue as the team plays Texas A&M on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m. on SEC Network. After that, the Gamecocks will have three games left in the regular season with two coming at home.

South Carolina remains in top four of SEC, what that means

By: Mike Uva

With Saturday’s 72-59 win against Ole Miss, South Carolina improved to (22-5 overall, and 10-4 in SEC play).

Put aside the Popsicle headache scenarios for a minute. The bottom line is, the Gamecocks are one game back for first place in the conference, with Tennessee and Alabama currently tied at 11-3. Tied with Auburn at 10-4, all 14 SEC teams have four conference games remaining. From a conference standpoint, finishing in the top four in the SEC would earn South Carolina a double-bye in the SEC Tournament. Teams who finish between fifth and tenth place will earn just a single bye with the bottom four having to compete in essentially a play-in game.

One of those teams itching to bump USC from their current spot is Florida (10-5), who the Gamecocks will host this upcoming Saturday (March 2). The Gators, who are currently ranked No.24 in the country, are one of the hottest teams in the conference. Winners of eight of their last ten, Florida fell in overtime at Alabama just this past Wednesday.
