South Carolina defense focused on fundamentals in preparation for Alabama star WR Ryan Williams
Across college football, it is hard to ignore the sheer talent of Alabama’s 17-year-old wide receiver Ryan “Hollywood” Williams. South Carolina’s defense will have their work cut out against Williams and the Crimson Tide offense.
Defensive coordinator Clayton White recognizes the challenge ahead and knows they have to be at their best.
“Ryan Williams obviously has made a name for himself nationally and worldwide,” White said. “Just from some spectacular plays that he’s made over the past couple weeks here in college football.”

So far this season, Williams has recorded nine touchdowns with 544 yards. Nonetheless, White is confident in his defense’s excitement for the test ahead.
“We understand when you come to the SEC these are things that can possibly you can face. These kind of athletes, these dynamic players week in and week out,” White said. “But he’s definitely one of those. His story is crazy. He’s only 17 but our guys are looking forward to the challenge.”

“We feel like our guys are our guys, know they’re good enough to go against anybody in this league,” White said. “So they’re looking forward to the opportunity to go against a player with that kind of name right now and how loud he is.”
Ahead of Alabama, White is focused on getting his played to work on their fundamentals. Facing a tough team in Week 7 provides an opportunity for South Carolina to work and improve.
“In order to stay off other people’s highlight tape, you got to really work on your fundamentals, which are just basic everyday things,” White said. “You got to do it when people aren’t watching because one mistake as a DB is seven points. You got to be the most disciplined, the most hardworking player there is behind closed doors.”
