Stewart is the only Gamecock to receive the Walter Camp preseason honor ahead of the 2025 season.

The sophomore EDGE was already named a member of the Athlon Sports first team All-SEC and All-America on Tuesday.

In May, he was named to the 42-player watch list for the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy. The award goes to the nation’s top defensive player in December.

The former five-star prospect picked up SEC Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors after a strong true freshman season. His performance also made him a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award. It also awarded him unanimous Freshman All-SEC and All-American honors.

Stewart started in 11 games, appearing in all 13 during his freshman season with the Gamecocks. The then-Freshman EDGE totaled 23 tackles during his freshman season, alongside 10.5 tackles for loss, including 6.5 sacks.

His sack total ranked him third among FBS freshmen and left him 1.5 shy of Jadaveon Clowney’s freshman record of 8. He also finished the season being 2.5 tackles for loss shy of Clowney’s freshman record of 12.

Stewart also made his presence felt in the turnover game, forcing three fumbles and recovering two.

Stewart made his impact known in his first snaps in a South Carolina uniform. The EDGE earned Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week, 247Sports True Freshman of the Week and SEC co-Defensive Lineman of the Week honors after his first game against Old Dominion. Stewart recorded four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in his debut game for the Gamecocks. He earned Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week honors again in an upset win over a then-top ten Texas A&M squad.

Stewart joins fellow SEC defenders EDGE Colin Simmons (Texas), LB Anthony Hill Jr. (Texas), LB Tauren York (Texas A&M) and DB Jermod McCoy (Tennessee).
