The Gamecocks are tied with Southern California for 13th-best odds going into the 2025 season. This comes after a year in which they went 9-4 (5-3 SEC) in head coach Shane Beamer’s fourth season in Columbia. If the odds are in their favor, it would be their first national championship in program history.

It’s a huge improvement compared to where things stood going into this past season, with South Carolina nowhere close to being on the CFP radar. The Gamecocks, who were coming off a 5-7 season in 2023, had +30000 odds to this year’s national championship.

As it turned out, the team was a lot better than many expected and finished No. 15 in the final CFP rankings before the 12-team playoff began in December. They’d go on to lose to No. 21 Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

Now heading into next season, expectations will surely be much higher for South Carolina. The Gamecocks will open their season where the 2024 season ended at the national championship in Atlanta to face Virginia Tech in the Aflac Kickoff Game. That game is set to be played on Sunday, Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
