Shane Beamer explains the message to his team entering road matchup against Florida
By Chandler Vessels
South Carolina coach Shane Beamer recognizes the challenge his team will face as it prepares to take on Florida in The Swamp on Saturday. At the same time, however, he doesn’t want them to get too caught up on the environment before they even arrive.
In his Tuesday press conference, Beamer spoke about balancing the importance of helping his players realize the special place the Swamp has in college football while also keeping them focused on their own preparation.
“We just talked a little bit about it this morning that it’s one of the great venues in college football and it’ll be an awesome environment,” he said. “It’s a sell out. It’ll be a great day down in Florida and what a cool place it is to play. But beyond that, it’s about us and preparing the right way to go play well. We don’t make a big deal about where we’re going into.”

The Gamecocks have won their past two road games, including a 38-27 victory against Vanderbilt last week. However, they have lost their past three contests in Gainesville, with their last win coming in 2014.
In every road game this season, Shane Beamer has taken his team to see the stadium the day before the game, and he intends to do the same against Florida.
“We make sure they know what it looks like,” Beamer said. “We’ll go look at the stadium on Friday, which is something we’ve done this year which is a little bit new, just so they can see it. Then after that, we really don’t talk a whole lot about the road. We just try and keep the schedule on the away games the exact same as the road games other than that we have to get on a plane or a bus to get where we’re going. But other than that, it’s an identical schedule and just try to stay in as much of a routine and process as we can.”
Kickoff between the Gamecocks and Gators is set for 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
