South Carolina puts six on Athlon All-SEC team, two on All-American squad

On Tuesday, Athlon Sports released their 2025 preseason All-SEC and preseason All-American teams. South Carolina football was represented on both squads. According to Athlon, the Gamecocks have six preseason All-SEC talents and two preseason All-American players.
The national outlet put quarterback LaNorris Sellers, offensive tackle Josiah Thompson, and wide receiver Nyck Harbor on its preseason All-SEC offense. Sellers made the third team, Thompson also earned a spot on the third, and Harbor is a fourth-teamer. Though Thompson plays left tackle for the Gamecocks, his label was simply as an offensive lineman by Athlon.
On defense, EDGE Dylan Stewart, defensive back Jalon Kilgore, and safety DQ Smith all made the squad. Stewart is a first-teamer, Kilgore made the third second team, and Smith slotted onto the fourth team. Stewart was listed as a defensive lineman on Athlon’s team. Though he plays nickel and sometimes slides back to safety, Kilgore made the team with a corner designation.

In addition to their places in the preseason All-SEC group, Sellers and Stewart made Athlon’s preseason All-American team. Stewart is a first-team defensive lineman, while Sellers is on the fourth team at quarterback. Earlier this offseason, Stewart made the outlet’s “way-too-early” preseason All-American team. Sellers, however, did not.
Last year, Sellers, Stewart, and Kilgore all made 2024 postseason All-SEC teams, while Thompson, Sellers, and Stewart also found their way onto some Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC teams.
