A former BCS ranking has South Carolina ranked just outside of the College Football Playoff top 12
However, according to the BCS (yes, that BCS), the Gamecocks should be ranked.

During the BCS era, six computer polls were combined and compared to two human polls (the Harris Interactive College Football Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll) to create the BCS rankings. Now, BCSKnowHow.com calculates the BCS rankings each week, substituting the AP poll in for the Harris poll. Based on the updated BCS formula, South Carolina football should be ranked 24th.
Because both the AP rankings and the USA Today top 25 have excluded the Gamecocks, Carolina’s BCS ranking is carried by the computers.
One of the BCS’ computer polls was the Sagarin College Football Rankings. According to these rankings, South Carolina is the 13th-best team in college football. That No. 13 ranking is no coincidence when one considers the fact that the Gamecocks are one of just 15 teams to have multiple victories over Sagarin-top-30 squads. The Sagarin rankings also include a “recent” strength rating, and USC slots in as the 10th-best team over recent weeks.

The Massey Rankings consider the Gamecocks No. 18, and the Billingsley College Football Research Center ranks USC No. 19.
With a good showing this weekend, South Carolina will push its way inside every ranking. The Gamecocks travel to Nashville to face the 6-3 Vanderbilt Commodores in a 4:15 p.m. contest. The game will be on SEC Network and streamed on the ESPN app.
