Former South Carolina captain earns SEC coaching job with Georgia Bulldogs

Former South Carolina linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams has been in coaching since his playing days ended. Following a short stint in the NFL, Allen-Williams coached with Shawn Elliott at Georgia State and then Mack Brown at North Carolina. Since 2023, though, BAW had been on staff at “the other USC,” Southern Cal. He earned a temporary promotion in December to the team’s interim on-field linebacker coach position. However, after a change at defensive coordinator out west, Allen-Williams has found a new gig.
According to reports on Wednesday (247Sports’ Matt Zenitz broke the news first), Allen-Williams is making a move back to the SEC. DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell confirmed those reports.

The former assistant linebackers coach at Southern Cal will now join the defensive staff at Georgia under head coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinators Glenn Schumann and Travaris Robinson. Robinson was the defensive coordinator in Columbia during part of Allen-Williams’ playing days with the Gamecocks. Allen-Williams will work as a defensive analyst alongside his former head coach, Will Muschamp. 2020 South Carolina offensive coordinator and interim head coach Mike Bobo also is on staff in Athens.
For Allen-Williams, coaching always seemed to be his next career move. He has a big personality and was an on-field leader for the Gamecocks. Now his coaching career has brought him back to his home state of Georgia and closer to his alma mater.

During his South Carolina football days, Allen-Williams was a fan favorite. A former high school All-American, Allen-Williams signed with the Gamecocks ahead of the 2014 season. He played both defensive end and outside linebacker for head coaches Steve Spurrier and Will Muschamp. Despite battling injuries, No. 4 finished his time in garnet and black just outside of the top 10 in career tackles for loss.
Before signing with the Gamecocks, Allen-Williams was a 4-star and top-100 prospect in the class of 2014.
