Former South Carolina captain earns coaching promotion
Former South Carolina football captain Bryson Allen-Williams is on staff at “the other USC.” With the Southern Cal Trojans, BAW has worked as a defensive graduate assistant since the summer of 2023. This year, with the NCAA’s laxer rules on assistant coaches, Allen-Williams served as the team’s assistant linebackers coach. Now, he’s getting a promotion.
On Thursday night, Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley announced that Allen-Williams is the team’s new interim linebackers coach. He is expected to be a candidate for the full-time job this offseason. Former linebackers coach (and assistant head coach of defense) Matt Entz left to become the head coach at Fresno State.
Riley told reporters on Thursday that Allen-Williams’ candidacy for the full-time job is legitimate and that his value to the Trojans program “has skyrocketed.” He is part of the interview process moving forward.

During his coaching career, Allen-Williams also worked for South Carolina assistant Shawn Elliott when the latter was the head coach at Georgia State. Before making the move out west, he had a stint with the North Carolina Tar Heels, as well. He worked under two different defensive coordinators at Southern Cal before his recent promotion.

With a big personality and on-field leadership skills, BAW seemed destined for a coaching career following his playing days.
During his South Carolina football days, Allen-Williams was a fan favorite. A former high school All-American, Allen-Williams signed with the Gamecocks ahead of the 2014 season. He played both defensive end and outside linebacker for head coaches Steve Spurrier and Will Muschamp. Despite battling injuries, Allen-Williams finished his time in garnet and black just outside of the top 10 in career tackles for loss. He also had a brief stint in the NFL before getting into coaching.
