Every Saturday, College GameDay breaks down the top matchups across the country. As usual, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Rece Davis, and Lee Corso were on site. The crew is in College Station, Texas ahead of the renewed rivalry between Texas A&M and Texas. However, on this Rivalry Saturday, there also was some South Carolina-Clemson talk mixed in throughout the show.

Once again, Pat McAfee’s scholarship and charity field goal challenge attempt was much better than the hilariously horrendous effort put forth by a University of South Carolina student back in week 3. This week, a Texas A&M fan (and Air Force student) took the challenge. He nearly killed an audience member with his first attempt before missing a second try to the left. Dude Perfect member Tyler Toney made the kick, and McAfee donated $250,000 to charity.

Earlier in the show, the Gamecocks and Tigers featured prominently on GameDay’s top rivalry matchups this Saturday. The Palmetto Bowl is one of three ranked vs. ranked games and the only top-15 showdown. South Carolina will wear the same uniform combination they wore when they won in Clemson in 2022.

In a discussion on the CFP Playoff picture, McAfee brought up the Gamecocks as a bigger obstacle to Clemson’s potential playoff hopes than a possible Miami Hurricanes road win against the Syracuse Orange (the Tigers need Miami to lose to make the ACC Championship Game). Saban followed that up by calling South Carolina “one of the best teams” around in college football. Herbstreit also called the team’s resume one of the best in the country and said a CFP berth could be theirs with a win against the rival Tigers on Saturday. Howard argued that LaNorris Sellers is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and his growth is the primary reason for USC’s recent success. Howard did a segment on Sellers that focused on his “elite athleticism” and improved decision-making. The entire crew loudly sang the Gamecock defense’s praises.

When it came time for the College GameDay crew to make their Rivalry Week picks, the panel ran out of time. Therefore, they did not make picks for South Carolina-Clemson. Despite the major stakes on Saturday and the amount of time the GameDay team talked about this afternoon’s game, there was no official pick.

Kickoff for the 121st Palmetto Bowl is at noon. ESPN will broadcast the game, and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming. Roy Philpott, Sam Acho, and Taylor Davis will be on the call for the worldwide leader.
