South Carolina assistant following Dowell Loggains to App State
South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains took the head coaching job at Appalachian State last weekend, and this weekend, he has hired a former Gamecock colleague to join him in Boone. According to a release from the school, App State is bringing on USC assistant Ryan Yurachek as an offensive assistant.
This season with the South Carolina football program, Yurachek was the assistant tight ends coach and also helped Loggains and run game coordinator Shawn Elliott. In 2023, he served as an offensive analyst with the USC staff. The Mountaineers have not revealed his new position; the press release named him an “offensive assistant.”

Yurachek and Loggains worked together at Arkansas in 2021 before being reunited in Columbia. The new App State head coach gave his first assistant hire rave reviews for his work with the Gamecock tight ends and running game.
The NCAA has relaxed its rules regarding assistant numbers and duty restrictions. Because of that, South Carolina will have the freedom to add (or not add) a Yurcheck replacement. They also could bring on multiple assistants in his stead. So far, Loggains’ departure, Mike Shula’s promotion to offensive coordinator, and Yurachek’s exit are the Gamecocks’ only staff changes.
