South Carolina football injury report: Beal-Smith expected to play
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer has updated the injury situation for the Gamecocks in advance of the SEC opener against Arkansas.
Running back Christian Beal-Smith, a transfer from Wake Forest who did not play in the opener against Georgia State, practiced this morning. In four seasons, Beal-Smith rushed for 1,871 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and 14 scores. He also caught 21 passes for 128 yards.

“Expect him to go,” Beamer said during his weekly preview press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Another transfer offensive player, wide receiver Corey Rucker, remains “very doubtful” according to Beamer. Rucker posted the best season of his collegiate career last season at Arkansas State with career highs in catches (59), yards (826) and touchdowns (9).
Safety R.J. Roderick went down against Georgia State on the first series with an arm injury and offensive lineman Jakai Moore also left the game after being banged up during the contest. Roderick was replaced against the Panthers by true freshman Nick Emmanwori. Moore came into the 2022 season as a backup at left tackle.

“Jakai Moore and RJ Roderick both, I would say, are questionable for this week as well. We’re waiting to get some results back on RJ. He’s OK, just waiting to kind of see his pain tolerance as we go forward. Optimistic we’ll see both of those guys, but they need to have a good day of practice tomorrow and then we’ll what happens Saturday.”

Two additional starters, offensive lineman Jaylen Nichols and cornerback Darius Rush, both exited South Carolina’s opener on Saturday night. It did not appear that either sustained a serious injury. Beamer did not mention Nichols or Rush during his press conference.
Dakereon Joyner played just one snap against Georgia State after dealing with an injury heading into that contest, but he was also not cited by Beamer during his injury report on Tuesday.
Linebacker Sherrod Greene, who did not play in the first game, is fine according to Beamer from a health standpoint.
“We expect him to, as we go through this season, to have a really productive year for us.”
