South Carolina injury report: Gamecocks bruised but no major issues
Seven practices in to South Carolina football spring practice 2022, the Gamecocks have a number of the typical bumps, bruises and minor injuries at a variety of positions, but head coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that the Gamecocks have avoided the major injuries to this point.
“Injury-wise, really nothing new to report, we’re still banged up at a lot of positions, nothing major at this point, knock on wood,” Beamer said. “Just some hamstring strains and groin strains and things like that that are keeping some guys out right now, but nobody super long term that we don’t think will be back before the end of spring practice that we haven’t talked about before.
“So just trying to keep everybody healthy, we’ve been practicing really physical. Had a physical practice this morning and then we’ll be back on the field Thursday and we’re going to scrimmage a little bit on Saturday for the first time. But pleased with where we are right now and the progress we’re making.”
Beamer did not go into specifics on which players are currently out of practice, other than adding that tight end Traevon Kenion has been limited with an ankle injury but did practice today.
South Carolina star tight end — or “wide back” — Jaheim Bell was injured on the first day of practice and has been out since but it’s not expected to be an injury that lingers through the offseason and he has not been ruled out completely for the spring either.
The Gamecocks, of course, have several guys that are working back up to full speed from prior injuries and are limited in various capacities such as quarterback Luke Doty, offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum, defensive back David Spaulding, and linebacker Sherrod Greene.
“Luke Doty is doing more and more out there,” Beamer said. “He’s getting cleared to do more and more each practice, so it’s good to see Luke out there. He’s pretty much doing about everything.”
