South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that there were only two “question marks” — AKA players the staff believes could be available for Week 1 but just aren’t sure about yet know — as the Gamecocks close in on a week and half from their season opener.

Kai Kroeger and Christian Beal-Smith are our two most concerned about guys if you will,” Beamer said during a press conference. “But here we are on Tuesday, a week and a half before we play, and I’m optimistic that both of those guys will be out there against Georgia State next Saturday night, but if not, we’ll be ready to roll. But they’re the only two guys that are question marks at this point from a personnel standpoint going into the first game, injury-wise.”

Running back MarShawn Lloyd, who missed the first scrimmage and was limited in a recent open practice, is back on the field and expected to play versus Georgia State, according to Beamer.

“He’s fine,” Beamer said. “He’s a little bit more ahead than Christian. No concerns on MarShawn. He practiced today. He’s playing running back, playing some special teams stuff out there. He’s fine.”

Senior linebacker Sherrod Greene is also back practicing after missing the first scrimmage.

“He practiced today,” Beamer said. “He’s been good. He has practiced and obviously, we’re just trying to be smart with him coming off an injury and Sherrod’s played a lot of football in his career as well. So, like anybody, he’s got bumps and bruises right now coming off three weeks of practice. But he’s had a good preseason and he and Mo Kaba and Brad Johnson and Debo Williams have done a really good job, those four guys at that linebacker position, coming off spring practice and then helping these young linebackers as well.”

South Carolina will certainly be without upperclassman tight end Chad Terrell, who Beamer announced Tuesday has torn his ACL for the third time and will miss the entire season.

Terrell, Beamer said, will have a role with the team even if it isn’t on the field, and it’s not yet known if his playing career is over.

While Beamer didn’t explicitly mention wide receiver Corey Rucker or EDGE Jordan Burch, both are likely to be ready for the season opener since they weren’t listed among the two “question marks” above.

South Carolina and Georgia State will kick off their 2022 campaigns with a Sept. 3 matchup at 7:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium.
