This Saturday night, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer will lead his team against the Texas A&M Aggies in front of a sold-out crowd. However, that isn’t the only important thing happening on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium. The South Carolina Letterman’s Hall of Fame will honor two Gamecock football all-time greats at halftime.

The legends, Melvin Ingram and Pharoh Cooper, were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday. The University of South Carolina will bring them onto the field Saturday as two of nine new Hall of Famers.

Melvin Ingram, a defensive player who spent time playing all over the Gamecock front-7, is one of the freakiest athletes ever to don the Block C on his helmet. Ingram was a combo EDGE/outside linebacker coming out of high school and eventually played a hybrid defensive end/defensive tackle role for the Gamecocks. He only started two games before his senior season, and in 2011, he went from being a good player to one of the South Carolina football program’s all-time greats. Ingram made the All-American team that year after posting one of just three double-digit sack seasons by a Gamecock. He also scored three non-offensive touchdowns in a three-game span. The San Diego Chargers selected Ingram in the 1st round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and he played 12 years in the NFL, including three Pro Bowl seasons.

Pharoh Cooper arrived on campus in Columbia as a defensive back, but head coach Steve Spurrier immediately moved to offense. The move paid off as he was a Freshman All-American before posting two All-SEC seasons at wide receiver. Despite being in college just three seasons and starting for just two, Cooper is all over the record books. “Fayrow” is top 12 in Gamecock history in every major career receiving category. He also posted two elite individual seasons, totaling 2430 scrimmage yards and 23 total touchdowns in 2014 and 2015. The Los Angeles Rams drafted Cooper in the 2016 4th round, and he was an All-Pro as a special teamer.
