Gamecocks have three "South Carolina Heisman" finalists
On Friday evening, the University of South Carolina announced that three Gamecock football players were named finalists for the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy. Senior EDGE Kyle Kennard, junior safety Nick Emmanwori, and freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers all made the cut. Kennard and Emmanwori are potential All-Americans this season, while Sellers could make the Freshman All-American squad.
Former Gamecocks Mario Anderson and Jordan Burch (both from the state) also are finalists for the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy. Last year, USC alum and in-state product Xavier Legette brought home the honor.
The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame gives out this “South Carolina Heisman” each season to the top college football player with ties to the Palmetto State. Both players who are from the Palmetto State or play their college ball in South Carolina are eligible. The award is named for George Rogers (who played at South Carolina) and Felix “Doc” Blanchard (who is from South Carolina but played at Army). Both men won the Heisman Trophy.
