LaNorris Sellers continues getting 2025 Heisman buzz

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers introduced himself to the college football world this season. The redshirt freshman finished the year as one of the very best players in the sport and became an All-SEC performer and the conference’s Freshman of the Year in the process. Because of that, he’s becoming a popular pick for the 2025 Heisman Trophy.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach released his “Way-Too-Early 2025 Heisman Trophy Contenders” article. Sellers made the cut after a dominant November saw him break the South Carolina football record for single-month touchdowns (16), leading the Gamecocks to an undefeated record (5-0), beat four ranked opponents (Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Clemson), and average nearly 350 yards of total offense per game. He was one of 14 on Schlabach’s list.
CBS Sports’ Blake Brockermeyer joined the Sellers hype train in his “2025 Heisman Trophy predictions” article. Brockermeyer included the USC quarterback among 14 contenders and called Sellers his “frontrunner.” He also called the dynamic QB the best player at South Carolina since Jadeveon Clowney, a player who finished 5th in 2012 Heisman Trophy voting despite being a defensive end.
Austin Curtwright of USA Today named Sellers one of 11 contenders in his “2025 Heisman Trophy favorites” piece. He also predicts that another good season out of No. 16 would result in South Carolina becoming one of the “top teams in the SEC.”

After beating Clemson, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer declared that Sellers was the best player in the country. His teammate, defensive back Nick Emmanwori said the same thing repeatedly after the rivalry win. That sentiment then was echoed by multiple big-time voices in college football, too.
The noise around Sellers will be deafening this offseason. However, if there’s any player who has the combination of ability, confidence, and composure to handle it, it’s LaNorris Sellers.
