Now that the College Football Playoff National Championship has come and gone and the offseason is here, it is officially “lists and projections season.” On Thursday, On3 released its list of the top 25 quarterbacks in college football for 2025. South Carolina star LaNorris Sellers featured prominently in the rankings.

On3 ranks Sellers as the No. 5 quarterback heading into next season. According to the article, Sellers earned his spot through a “remarkable turnaround” that saw him improve throughout the 2024 campaign.

“Remarkable” is a fair descriptor for what South Carolina football fans saw from their starter last fall. No. 16 showed flashes of brilliance during the first half of the season. However, with inexperience and an ankle injury, his play was inconsistent. As he grew healthier and more comfortable, though, Sellers became a force.

The Palmetto State native broke multiple USC freshman records (3208 total yards and 25 total touchdowns) in 2024 and set a new single-month touchdown mark (16) in November, as well. He also led Carolina to a six-game winning streak, the first for the Gamecocks since 2013. No. 16 became South Carolina’s first-ever All-SEC quarterback as selected by the league’s coaches.

For those curious, Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, Penn State’s Drew Allar, Florida’s DJ Lagway, and Texas’ Arch Manning were the four signal-callers ranked ahead of Sellers. That puts Sellers third in the SEC and fourth among rising sophomores.

South Carolina will play against four of On3’s top-15 quarterbacks next season. The Gamecocks will face Garrett Nussmeier (No. 6) and LSU on the road in Baton Rouge, Cade Klubnik (No. 8) and Clemson at home at Williams-Brice Stadium, John Mateer (No. 9) and Oklahoma at home in Columbia, and Diego Pavia (No. 14) and Vanderbilt also at home.

Sellers and the Gamecocks will open next season in August in the final place college football was played in January. South Carolina and Virginia Tech will play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 31st.
