LaNorris Sellers and South Carolina receivers seeing chemistry grow

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is about two-thirds of the way through with his third spring practice and second as the Gamecocks’ starter. Following an All-SEC showing in 2024, expectations are high for No. 16 in 2025. According to Sellers and his head coach, his connection with his receivers is growing as he prepares to help USC take another step forward this fall.

Early this week, head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media and said that he’s seen an increase in chemistry between his star quarterback and the players responsible for catching his passes.
Said Beamer, “[They are] continuing to just work every day to develop that chemistry. It’s not going to be perfect coming out of spring, but we’re farther along coming out of spring.” He also partners that good report with optimism. “And then we go through the summer, and that chemistry develops even more. And then you go into preseason camp, and it develops even more.”
Returning players like Nyck Harbor, Mazeo Bennett, Jared Brown, and Vandrevius Jacobs should be major factors for the Gamecocks. But a six-man freshman class of wideouts (Malik Clark, Brian Rowe, Jordon Gidron, Jayden Sellers, Lex Cyrus, and Donovan Murph) will be called upon to contribute, too. Not all six will play big snaps right away. However, Beamer thinks the class of 2025 pass-catchers will be good enough to make an impact this season.
“So the fact that those freshmen are here right now, they’re going through some growing pains, but they’re going to be so much better for it right now, or they’re going to be so much better for it because they’ve gone through this without a doubt,” said the USC headman. He added, “We’re seeing a lot of good.”

In an appearance on 107.5 The Game’s Gamecock Club Hour, Sellers echoed those sentiments. “I think [the young receivers] are coming along good. But I’m excited to work with them. It’s good working with them. I’m having fun.”
As one could expect, though, Sellers has a great connection with the guys he’s played with already. The Freshman All-American told GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell that he can count on Harbor, Bennett, Brown, and Jacobs. “…those guys last year were just learning the system, taking it all in, like I said. This year, they’ve got another year under the belt already. So, it’s like clockwork to them.”

Beamer expressed confidence in his tight ends being ready for Sellers, too. Despite having to replace the NFL-bound Josh Simon, Carolina returns Michael Smith, Brady Hunt, and Moe Brown as scholarship players at the position. Transfer portal addition Jordan Dingle and athletic freshman Mike Tyler will be part of the group, too. Beamer used words like “tough,” “scrappy,” and “explosive” to describe some of the players in that room.

With less than a week left of spring ball (and the Garnet and Black Spring Game coming up on Friday), South Carolina football soon will enter a critical summer of workouts, positional work, and further team-building. If all goes well, the Gamecocks should have a chance at another strong season in 2025.
If that happens, it will–without a doubt–be in conjunction with another good season from LaNorris Sellers and continued improvement for the young men to whom he will be getting the ball.
South Carolina will play its first game of the season on Sunday, August 31st in Atlanta, Georgia. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will play host to the Gamecocks and the Virginia Tech Hokies in the litmus test season opener.
