South Carolina redshirt sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers had a breakout season in 2024. Because of striking development over the course of the season that culminated with a record-breaking November, Sellers is one of the top Heisman Trophy candidates heading into the 2025 campaign and is generating plenty of buzz ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Draft expert and The Ringer analyst Todd McShay believes the Gamecock starter could come off the board early next spring. Said McShay, Sellers “has the traits of a future QB1, should he show continued development in his second year as a starter for the Gamecocks in 2025.”

In an in-depth scouting breakdown, McShay graded Sellers as a borderline elite player in terms of his pocket mobility and arm strength/release. He also gave the South Carolina signal-caller favorable grades for his passing accuracy and mental makeup.

McShay compared Sellers to Super Bowl championship-winning quarterback Jalen Hurts, citing their shared physical attributes, playmaking creativity, character, and competitive drives. He said that Sellers’ “blend of size, mobility, and arm strength (is what) NFL teams covet in a quarterback.”

In an earlier conversation on his podcast, The McShay Show, McShay and cohost Steve Muench sang No. 16’s praises. The duo agreed that Sellers is special. “This guy’s best tape is better than everybody else’s,” said McShay. Muench added, “When you see him at his best, he’s unstoppable. He’s a great runner when he takes off. Strong arm. Built well. Can handle the physical beating he’s going to take at quarterback and shake off some sacks, moves around very well.” Muench also said, “[Sellers is] a guy I think again has got a really good chance to be in the mix (at the top of the NFL Draft).”

Sellers and South Carolina will begin the 2025 season in Atlanta against Virginia Tech. The Gamecocks and Hokies will play in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, August 31st. ESPN will televise the neutral-site matchup, while the ESPN app makes it available via streaming.
