On Monday, On3 announced their Midseason True Freshman All-American team. Two first-year South Carolina football players made the cut as left tackle Josiah Thompson and EDGE Dylan Stewart received the honor. The pair of former 5-star recruits had huge expectations coming into the season, and so far, they’ve lived up to them.

Thompson has started every game this year for the Gamecocks at left tackle. There have been rocky moments for last year’s Palmetto State Mr. Football, but he has shown plenty of upside, too. With more experience (and more time in the weight room), Josiah Thompson should become a star. He showcased some of his tremendous ability with a good game against LSU earlier this season.

Stewart’s place on the team was a no-brainer. Just looking at the box score, one can see that the Washington DC native has been extremely productive, but his impact is much larger than his (impressive) stat totals listed under “sacks” and “tackles for loss.” Opposing offenses have to game plan for Stewart, and with Kyle Kennard’s excellence on the other side of the Gamecock defensive line, the South Carolina front has caused a lot of headaches for opposing offenses.

These honors certainly won’t be the final ones for the Gamecock duo during their college days. However, the two South Carolina stars also are expected to have long professional careers. Both Thompson and Stewart have the physical makeups of ideal NFL prospects for their positions.

Listed at 6’7″ and 300 pounds, Thompson is one of the most athletic offensive linemen in the country. He has a wingspan near seven feet and advanced footwork for his age. The Dillon High Schol product has nearly unlimited potential and could play on Sundays for a long time.

There are some NFL Draft analysts who believe Dylan Stewart could be a 1st round pick this year if eligible. Once he adds a little muscle to his frame, NFL Draft boards will feature Stewart very prominently in 2027.

Thompson and Stewart will take the field again Saturday when South Carolina football travels to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama. The Crimson Tide lost to Vanderbilt this past weekend. USC-‘Bama will be broadcast at Noon on ABC, ESPN+, and the ESPN app.
