National reactions from South Carolina's loss to Missouri

On Saturday night, South Carolina took on Missouri in the Mayor’s Cup. A sold-out crowd in “the other Columbia” witnessed one of the most lopsided rushing games of the year. When the dust settled, Mizzou outrushed Carolina 285 to -9 en route to a 29-20 victory.

The disappointing showing from USC dropped the team’s overall record to 2-2. The Gamecocks also own an SEC record of 0-2.

With the game on ESPN during a primetime slot, plenty of eyes were on the SEC matchup. Below are some of the national reactions to South Carolina’s second loss in a row.

Barstool Sports’ Brandon Walker has a sobering projection for the 2025 Gamecocks based on what he has seen this season.

Things were so bad for USC’s ground efforts that The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo fired off a painful joke at South Carolina’s expense.

Former The State and On3 writer Matt Connolly referenced the same stat, calling out the South Carolina offensive line in the process. He said the performance was almost impossibly poor.

Despite the rough overall performance for the Gamecocks, Draft Network’s Justin Melo was impressed with LaNorris Sellers as a passer on Saturday night. Earlier on Saturday, the College GameDay crew revealed a survey of 25 NFL executives who voted Sellers as the 2026 NFL Draft’s QB1.
