South Carolina Gamecocks' NFL Combine measurements, testing results, and more

The NFL Combine is here, and South Carolina football fans have a lot to track. With 11 combine invitees and an additional specialist showcase participant, the Gamecocks are well-represented in Indianapolis.
Players will be tested and measured all week, and several Carolina products should improve their draft stocks when those numbers are finalized. Below are some of the Gamecock-specific results from the NFL Combine.
*New numbers will be added throughout the week as players compete; “N/A” means that a player opted not to perform a particular drill or workout, or in Kroeger’s case, didn’t do certain workouts because of their position; if a box is left blank, that means official results are not yet recorded*
After all players have competed at the NFL Combine, this story will include additional breakdowns of each player’s numbers.

Nick Emmanwori: What is there to say about Emmanwori? Following one of the best NFL Combine showings ever, it feels like a first-round pick is inevitable for the South Carolina All-American. Emmanwori led all players at this year’s combine in the broad jump and vertical, posted the second-best safety 40 time, and benched more than any other safety. Based on the ratings from Kent Platte’s Relative Athletic Score, Emmanwori would have finished as a 10-out-of-10 athletically as a free safety, strong safety, cornerback, or wide receiver.
TJ Sanders: Sanders had a good combine, but he might have helped his draft stock most with his measurements. Expected by many to weigh somewhere in the 280s, the South Carolina native tipped the scales at 297 pounds. His 6-4 height and 33-inch arms help prove his positional versatility that can slide out to end in certain situations.
Kyle Kennard: Kennard didn’t do much testing at the NFL Combine but did post a top-10 bench among EDGE players. Barring a noteworthy performance (one way or the other), his draft stock was going to be based on his on-field production, and a consensus All-American performance and Nagurski Trophy-winning season went a long way in that regard.
Demetrius Knight: One of several Gamecocks to impress during his athletic testing, Knight showed off for scouts at the combine. His 40 and broad jump were top-10 among linebackers, and his 3-cone drill time and 20-yard shuttle performance both were top-3 at the position. Knight’s on-field workouts were very good, as well. His 22.76 mph top sprint speed was tops among linebackers during 40-yard dash tries.
Rocket Sanders: Sanders was a good tester this week. Even as a bigger back, he also tested as a 90th-percentile athlete. His top speed of 23.55 miles per hour was the fastest sprint speed among all running backs during 40-yard dash attempts.
O’Donnell Fortune: Fortune didn’t really move the needle one way or the other with his combine testing. However, he measured in at 6-1 with 31.5-inch arms. That type of length won’t hurt his draft stock. He also had some good reps during on-field drills.
Tonka Hemingway: From an athletic testing perspective, Hemingway had one of the most impressive defensive line showings at the combine. He earned “great” and “elite” grades on all of his explosion and agility testing numbers. Hemingway looked good in drills, too. Weighing in at 284 pounds, though, the former Gamecock was one of the smallest tackles in attendance.

Josh Simon: Simon really helped himself at the combine. He posted the second-best numbers among all tight ends in the 40-yard dash, vertical, and broad jump. His other testing numbers were solid, too, and he measured at a legitimate 6-4.
Torricelli Simpkins: Grouped with the centers at the NFL Combine, Simpkins didn’t wow scouts with his speed testing. However, he looked really good in position drills and posted some of the best explosion numbers (vertical/broad jump) of any non-tackle offensive lineman. He had a good showing in front of the microphone, as well.
DeAndre Jules: One of the players who did not test this week, Jules measured in at 6-4 and 316 pounds. He was the 14th-heaviest defensive lineman in Indianapolis.
Bam Martin-Scott: Martin-Scott also performed well from a testing standpoint. His 4.63 40-yard dash time was 11th-best among linebackers at the combine, and his 3-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle were fifth and sixth, respectively. He was even better during positional drills, impressing scouts with his fluidity and seamless change-of-direction skills.
Kai Kroeger: Kroeger was one of the top performers at the NFL Combine’s specialist showcase last week, sources told GamecockCentral. His best punts topped out with a 5.4-second hang time. That is significantly better than NFL average and was the best among all punters at the showcase.
