Oklahoma, however, was not quite as close to a victory. Facing off against the rival Texas Longhorns in the Red River Shootout, the Sooners fell in blowout fashion. The 34-3 defeat dropped their record to 4-2 on the season.

South Carolina and Oklahoma have never met on the gridiron. The Sooners will make the return trip to Columbia in 2025.

There is some familiarity between the two programs, though. Carolina head coach Shane Beamer served as an assistant in Norman for three seasons before his hire at South Carolina. OU headman Brent Venables also was the defensive coordinator of the rival Clemson Tigers for a decade.

Following the matchup with Oklahoma, the Gamecocks will get their second bye of the season before returning home to face another former Big 12 team, the Texas A&M Aggies. The Battle for the Bonham Trophy will be a night kick. The exact time and television information will come at a later date.
