When South Carolina and Ole Miss take the field on Saturday, injuries will be a major storyline.

Gamecock fans are optimistic that important offensive pieces like quarterback LaNorris Sellers, running back Rocket Sanders, and wide receiver Jared Brown will return from their respective injuries since they were each labeled “probable” on both Thursday’s and Friday’s injury reports.

However, one of the Rebels’ top players wasn’t so lucky.

According to Lane Kiffin’s injury report, EDGE Princely Umanmielen will miss the game with an injury sustained during last week’s loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. On the season, Umanmielen has logged 3.5 sacks despite being banged up more than once.

Umanmielen’s absence does not leave the Rebels void of pass rush juice. Fellow EDGE Jared Ivey, linebackers Chris “Pooh” Paul and Suntarine Perkins, and defensive tackle Walter Nolen all can get after the quarterback when their number is called. Freshman defensive end Kam Franklin could play a bigger role in Umanmielen’s stead.

For South Carolina, keeping LaNorris Sellers (and, possibly, Robby Ashford) upright still will be critical. The Gamecocks are among the country’s worst in sacks allowed and quarterback fumbles. To pull off the minor upset on Saturday, that must improve.

Several other impactful Ole Miss players are “out” or “questionable” on the injury report. South Carolina, though, appears to be much healthier.
