Oscar Adaway gives back this Christmas season
*UPDATE: Wednesday’s event has moved to Thursday*
It’s now the middle of December, and that means a lot of things. It’s nearly time for South Carolina football to face off with Illinois in the Citrus Bowl. The transfer portal is dominating the college football news cycle. The weather is cooling off. It’s also the holiday season, and Christmas is fast approaching. For one Gamecock senior, this presents an opportunity to give back.
USC running back Oscar Adaway is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands to help provide toys for children in need this Christmas. The toy giveaway is for kids and families in the Pine Grove Elementary Club.
On social media, Adaway promoted the event with a Bible verse from the book of Acts: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). He is hopeful that others will join him by offering donations. The giveaway is on Wednesday, December 18th at 3:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Elementary. More details can be found in Adaway’s social media message below or online at midlands.begreat.club.

Adaway and the Gamecocks will be in Florida right after Christmas this year for one final 2024 contest. The Cheez-It Citrus Bowl picked South Carolina and Illinois to face off for the first time ever on December 31st. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. ABC will broadcast the game, and ESPN+ will make it available for streaming.
Following a transfer from North Texas, Adaway played a prominent role for the 2024 Gamecocks. Backing up Rocket Sanders, the senior back has posted over 330 yards of offense and two touchdowns this season. The bowl game won’t be his final in garnet and black, though. Thanks to a redshirt, medical redshirt, and “Covid redshirt,” Adaway plans to return for another year in 2025.
