Veteran college football analyst Phil Steele is one of the most respected names in the sport. He has earned that respect because of decades of excellent (and thorough) college football coverage. The long-time pundit recently released his All-American and All-SEC teams and included a long list of South Carolina stars.

As All-Americans, Steele named EDGE Kyle Kennard a 1st team player. Safety Nick Emmanwori made the 2nd team, and punter Kai Kroeger made the 3rd team. Long snapper Hunter Rogers did not make a Steele All-American team but received an “honorable mention” distinction, nonetheless.

Steele included all three of Kennard, Emmanwori, and Kroeger on his All-SEC 1st team. Kennard, in particular, has made every All-American team imaginable and received enough 1st team recognition to become a consensus All-American this season, just the fifth player in South Carolina football history to do so.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Rocket Sanders made the 2nd team for the USC offense. On defense, tackle TJ Sanders also picked up 2nd team honors.

On Steele’s 3rd team, the Gamecocks placed one player from each phase of the game. Guard Torricelli Simpkins represented the South Carolina offense as 3rd team All-SEC. Defensive back Jalon Kilgore joined him from the other side of the football. From the third phase of the game, special teams, long snapper Hunter Rogers earned inclusion.

Tight end Josh Simon also made Steele’s All-SEC squad, slotting onto his 4th team.

With 10 All-SEC selections, though, South Carolina flew past Steele’s preseason prediction of six All-SEC performers. However, to Steele’s credit, he nailed four of those six projections. He correctly pegged Rocket Sanders, Hunter Rogers, Nick Emmanwori, and Kai Kroeger as preseason All-SEC contributors.
