South Carolina extends offer to big-time freshman

On Tuesday, South Carolina football extended a scholarship offer to big-time freshman Asher Ghioto. He announced the offer on social media.
The class of 2028 prospect attends The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida (the same school that produces Gamecock legend Hayden Hurst) and is one of the top freshmen in the country. Listed at 6-4 and 235 pounds, Ghioto is an elite defensive line/EDGE prospect with over 30 Division-I offers already. He earned his first (from UCF) while still in the 8th grade. Other major programs like Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, Miami, Michigan, and Alabama have offered, as well.
The talented Floridian earned multiple Freshman All-American honors for his efforts this past season. Ghioto logged seven sacks and has been a standout on the camp/showcase circuit. On3’s Charles Power recently named him a player to watch at defensive tackle in the class of 2028. He was one of nine who made the list.

Ghioto is both strong and athletic, giving him the flexibility to play inside or outside on the defensive line, depending on how his body continues to develop. He also plays some tight end on the other side of the ball.
With three more years of high school remaining, it is far too early to project how Ghioto’s recruitment will go. However, he’s the type of prospect worth monitoring. He told On3 recently that he grew up as a Georgia fan, but plenty of other schools will be in the mix for his services. Before the USC offer, he mentioned Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Syracuse, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Tennessee as programs that come to mind as the ones recruiting him the hardest.
