Talented lineman includes South Carolina on top 5 list, sets commitment date
On Monday, talented class of 2026 offensive lineman Bear McWhorter announced his top 5 list. South Carolina made the cut along with the rival Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, and Florida Gators. McWhorter also told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he has a commitment date in mind. According to the big blocker from the Peach State, he will announce his college decision on February 28th.

On3’s industry rankings–a weighted composite average of the rankings from On3, 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals–consider McWhorter as a 3-star prospect and the No. 502 overall player in the class of 2026. Listed at 6’3″ and 308 pounds, he also is the No. 56 player in the state of Georgia. Among all interior offensive linemen, he ranks No. 48 nationally.
McWhorter, who is an Under Armour All-American, has visited South Carolina several times and has ties to Columbia. The Gamecock coaches also have been to see him in Georgia, too. However, he says that once he commits to a school at the end of the month, he will only visit that school after that point.

Alabama has been viewed as the favorite in McWhorter’s recruitment for some time. He grew up as a fan of the team and was named after legendary Crimson Tide head coach Bear Bryant. The other schools in contention, though, have all given him something to consider. That includes the Gamecocks.

At the time of this writing, South Carolina football has five commitments in the class of 2025. Just one of them, Rock Hill native Anthony Baxter, is an offensive lineman. 4-star safety J’Zavien Currence, 4-star tight end Jamel Howse, 4-star linebacker/EDGE Keenan Britt, and 3-star defensive back Peyton Dyer join Baxter as Gamecock pledges.
