Trio of South Carolina football commits named Mr. Football finalists
On Thursday, a trio of South Carolina football commitments were announced as finalists for the state’s Mr. Football award.
Wide receiver Malik Clark (Rock Hill High School; Rock Hill, South Carolina), offensive lineman Shed Sarratt (Gaffney High School; Gaffney, South Carolina), and quarterback Cutter Woods (Westside High School; Anderson, South Carolina) join running back Marquise Henderson (Belton-Honea Path High School; Honea Path, South Carolina), and quarterback Will Wilson (Richland Northeast High School; Columbia, South Carolina) as the five finalists.
While Clark, Sarratt, and Woods will be in Columbia next year, Henderson is a Clemson commitment, and Wilson is going to NC State.
Clark revealed his commitment to the Gamecocks earlier this month after flipping from the Florida State Seminoles. Sarratt announced his plans to be a Gamecock during the summer. Woods flipped from Wake Forest to South Carolina a couple of weeks after Sarratt’s commitment. The trio are part of a South Carolina football recruiting class ranked 21st nationally in the class of 2025.

The winner of the 2024 Mr. Football award will be announced at the annual Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. Better known as the North/South Game, the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl will be on December 21st in Myrtle Beach. Clark, Sarratt, and Woods all made the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, currently scheduled for the same day in Spartanburg.
The South Carolina football program has claimed the previous two winners of the Mr. Football honor. In 2023, Dillon offensive lineman Josiah Thompson won the award. In 2022, defensive tackle Xzavier McLeod was Mr. Football. McLeod has since transferred to the rival Georgia Bulldogs.
Since the award’s conception in 1995, 12 Mr. Football recipients signed with USC out of high school. Another 2015 winner, Tavien Feaster, signed with Clemson but eventually transferred to South Carolina. Georgia (4) and Clemson (3) are the only other programs with multiple signees who won the Palmetto State’s Mr. Football.
