This weekend, Dallas, Texas welcomed some of the very best prospects from the class of 2026, 2027, and 2028 to Overtime’s 7-on-7 league. (For those unfamiliar, 7-on-7 is a mostly non-contact version of football that highlights skill position players and quarterbacks.) AtOT7, a South Carolina football commitment and a major target were among the best performers on Saturday and Sunday.

According to a report from On3’s Cody Bellaire, 4-star safety pledge J’Zavien Currence was one of On3’s top Saturday performers.

Said Bellaire about Currence, “One of, if not the, most physically impressive prospects on the defensive side of the football was South Carolina safety commit J’Zavien Currence.  The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defensive back has unbelievable physical tools at the safety position, but it’s his movement skills that truly separate him from the pack. He’s such a smooth mover that he almost glides when covering ground.”

4-star cornerback target Samari Matthews has had a big weekend, too. The North Carolina native has had the Gamecocks among his leaders for some time.

Playing for the City Reapers (the same team as Currence), Matthews logged an interception in the end zone on Sunday. He also broke up another pass in the end zone. On Saturday, he impressed by showing off his strong physical makeup–at 6-1, he also has long arms and impressive athleticism.

At the time of this writing, both Currence and Matthews are top-75 overall prospects according to the On3 industry rankings. Currence is the No. 6 safety in the country and the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State. Matthews is the No. 11 corner and the No. 6 player in a loaded class in North Carolina.

In total, South Carolina has five commitments in the class of 2026. Joining Currence are 4-star tight end Jamel Howse, 4-star cornerback Peyton Dyer, 4-star linebacker/EDGE Keenan Britt, and 4-star offensive lineman Anthony Baxter.
