South Carolina offers young in-state running back
On Wednesday, in-state running back David “Tre” Segarra announced on social media that South Carolina football running backs coach Marquel Blackwell had offered him a scholarship. The contact window recently re-opened, allowing coaches to communicate directly with recruits.
A Byrnes High School product, Segarra is an On3 4-star prospect in the class of 2027. The sophomore is one of the best young prospects in the country, ranked No. 70 overall and 6th among running backs.
He also holds offers from other major programs like Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia Tech. The standout running back has shown interest in the rival Clemson Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats, as well.
Segarra has visited South Carolina on multiple occasions. An early offer like this indicates that the Gamecocks’ interest in Segarra is significant. He joins fellow in-state prospect Khristian Jackson (wide receiver, Ridge View High School) with a January scholarship offer.

Segarra is listed at 5’10” and 193 pounds but is exceptionally strong for his size. He has posted deadlift numbers north of 500 pounds and a 40-yard dash time below 4.5 seconds. He also claims a 500-pound squat, as well. Those physical traits translate to his game film.
As a player, Segarra has shown a knack for making opponents miss. His strength, balance, and vision complement that skill well, making him difficult to tackle. He’s also got enough speed that he finds the end zone any time he gets behind the defense.
Segarra helped lead his Byrnes Rebels to a region title in both football and soccer in 2024. In addition to his accomplishments on the gridiron, he was the Rebels’ leading goal-scorer as a freshman last spring and was named the All-Area Freshman of the Year on the pitch.
