South Carolina completes Signing Day flip of talented pass-catcher from LSU
South Carolina has successfully flipped LSU commitment Mike Tyler. The talented tight end had pledged his services to the Bayou Bengals back in mid-August. Now, following Wednesday’s commitment, he is a future Gamecock. Tyler, who is a class of 2025 prospect from Hammond School in Columbia, also signed with the Gamecocks on Wednesday during a ceremony at Hammond.
During his announcement at Hammond, an emotional Tyler said, “It means everything to me to stay home and represent my hometown.”
At the time of this writing, On3’s industry composite considers Tyler to be the No. 588 player in the country. He’s also the composite’s 13th-best prospect from the Palmetto State and No. 27 nationally among all tight ends.
Leading up to the flip, USC had been pursuing Tyler heavily this fall. He visited campus multiple times for home games, and he told GamecockCentral that those visits were “amazing.”

At 6’3″ and 230 pounds, Tyler is a versatile player. He is a gifted pass-catcher who uses his length and athleticism to be a mismatch in coverage. However, he’s got enough size, strength, and “want-to” that he could become a good blocker in college, too. Tyler should be a big addition to Shawn Elliott’s tight end room.

The local product had a very nice senior season and even caught the game-winning touchdown in the state championship. That production could translate quickly to the college game if things go well for Tyler. The Gamecocks played three tight ends a lot of snaps during the 2024 season, and one of them (Josh Simon) is graduating and likely off to the NFL.

One of 11 in-state players committed in the cycle, Tyler is the only tight end pledge in South Carolina’s 2025 signing class. In addition to LSU, Tyler committed to the Gamecocks over offers from major programs like Ole Miss, NC State, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech.
Tyler also is the third prospect to sign with Carolina who was not committed to USC coming into the day. He joins fellow flip Zavion Hardy (JuCo defensive tackle previously pledged to Mississippi State) and defensive tackle Christian Ingram as National Signing Day wins for the Gamecocks.
