Following an impressive group of signees in the class of 2025, South Carolina wide receivers coach Mike Furrey has his eyes set on a smaller haul at his position in the 2026 cycle. With six incoming receivers (five 4-star prospects), Furrey is prioritizing just a few players in the next class. One of these priority names near the top of the Gamecocks’ recruiting board is 4-star Gordon Sellars.

Ranked in the On3 industry rankings as the nation’s No. 337 overall prospect, Sellars attends Providence Day School in Charlotte. He also is the No. 17 player in a loaded class in North Carolina and the nation’s No. 49 receiver.

On Wednesday, On3’s Chad Simmons reported that the talented pass-catcher has locked in his official visit to USC. He will take officials to Clemson and Georgia, as well. Right now, he is scheduled to be in Clemson for the weekend of May 30th. Then, he will be in Columbia for the weekend of June 6th before a trip to Athens the next weekend. A trip to Michigan likely will also happen.

Sellars cut his list to five schools (South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan) during the fall. However, he told Simmons he doesn’t plan to take any other trips, indicating his four official visits likely represent a top four instead of a top five.

His commitment should come shortly after the conclusion of his visits. Sellars told On3 that he is “looking for a great football team, but also great academics because football has to end one day.” He added, “I want to be put in a situation where I can focus on both…Other important factors to me are the area and the people on campus because I want to be at a place where I can feel like myself.”

Sellars previously has said that South Carolina is doing “a great job” in his recruitment. He remains particularly impressed by teams who work to develop players on the field and off of it. That has been an emphasis of the Gamecock coaching staff during the Shane Beamer era.

If his 6’3″ listed size is accurate, Sellars would make a good fit for South Carolina’s receiver room. While several players in the ’25 signing class are 6’1″ or 6’2″, only junior Nyck Harbor (who could be off to the NFL next offseason) is 6’3″ or taller among the team’s receivers. Landing Sellars would give the Gamecocks their tallest outside threat.

So far in the class of 2026, South Carolina has landed five commitments. 4-star prospects J’Zavien Currence, Jamel Howse, and Keenan Britt join high-upside defensive back Peyton Dyer and in-state offensive lineman Anthony Baxter in the class. That group has earned the Gamecocks the No. 11-ranked class in On3’s team industry recruiting rankings. Big-time offensive line target Darius Gray also scheduled a June official visit this week.
