This April, South Carolina football offered a scholarship to class of 2027 quarterback Jayce Johnson. The Valdosta, Georgia native picked up the offer following an unofficial visit for the Garnet and Black Spring Game. Over the weekend, the talented gunslinger earned MVP honors at the Atlanta Rivals camp.

Johnson was the most impressive quarterback in Atlanta, even outperforming all the older players at the event. The high school sophomore showcased a live arm and solid athleticism, traits that, along with his listed size (6-4 and 210 pounds), have caused some to profile him somewhat similarly to current USC quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

Johnson recently had a big showing at an OT7 7-on-7 event in Dallas, Texas, too.

As a player, Johnson is a special talent. He has a strong arm and can make virtually any throw. He also has a big frame that should only help him as he adds even more velocity over his next two years of high school. Though not an elite runner (but still a good one), Johnson possesses escapability and is really good at deciding when to take off in search of a first down.

On3’s industry ranking considers Johnson to be the nation’s No. 59 overall prospect in the class of 2027. He’s also No. 6 nationally among quarterbacks and No. 7 in talent-rich Georgia.

The Gamecocks have offered several other class of 2027 QBs, as well. Fellow 4-star prospects Gunner Rivers, Trae Taylor (Nebraska commitment), and Trent Seaborn, 3-star recruit Champ Smith, and unranked William Jackson are all on South Carolina’s current board. Seaborn has been the most visible target, but USC is far from the only school pushing in his recruitment.
