Potential future 5-star visiting South Carolina football
There will be an impressive group of visitors checking out the South Carolina football program this weekend. (Read GamecockCentral.com’s Chris Clark’s entire visitor breakdown here.) One of the top names coming to Columbia is class of 2027 prospect Kelsey Adams.
On3’s industry recruiting rankings consider Adams to be the No. 38 player in the 2027 cycle. He also is the No. 6 player in Georgia and the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country. Both On3 and 247Sports include Adams in 5-star territory (16th and 15th, respectively) in their individual player rankings, as well. As rankings update over the next two years, the big man could earn a fifth star next to his name.

On film, it is easy to see why Adams is a potential future 5-star player. Despite being just a high school sophomore, he dominates the talent-rich Atlanta area. Listed at 6’5″ and 260 pounds, Adams looks bigger than that. He is a big, athletic offensive tackle with a bright future in front of him that likely will extend to a career in the National Football League.
Thanks to remarkably quick feet and a good pad level, Adams is a road-grading run blocker. He fires off the ball sometimes before opposing defensive linemen can make a move into the neutral zone. He also has impressive post-engagement leg drive for a young player. When asked to block in space on screens, pulls, and second-level climbs, Adams is a hunter who effortlessly clears a path for his team’s ballcarriers.

As a pass blocker, the Peach State product needs some technical development, but that is the case for all high school linemen. However, he possesses some important traits that can’t be taught. Adams has long arms, a quick first step in his drops, and a strong lower half that allows him to anchor effectively. His hands are solid, too, helping him win when he gets ahold of an opposing pass rusher. After he spends some time with a college coaching staff, Adams could become an elite blindside protector.
Adams plays basketball for his North Clayton High School squad, too. He is not out of place on the court, especially as a rebounding and shot-blocker. Undoubtedly, his experience on the hardwood has helped his footwork, fluidity, and overall athleticism.

Adams already has offers from major programs like Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and UCF. He also has accepted an invitation to play in the 2026 Polynesian Bowl as an underclassman. The rest of his recruitment will be worth watching for any team fortunate enough to be involved.
