4-star defensive back decommits from South Carolina

On Tuesday, 4-star defensive back Peyton Dyer told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he was decommitting from South Carolina. In recent months, Dyer’s standing in the recruiting world picked up significantly. With that, his list of suitors grew as major programs like Georgia, Southern Cal, and Ohio State pushed. It is unclear if the Gamecocks will remain a factor in the pursuit of the 6-1, 190-pound corner.
Following his commitment to South Carolina in November, the Atlanta native moved from 3-star status to the ranks of blue chippers. Dyer now is the No. 275 overall prospect and No. 24 CB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 industry ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 31 player in the state of Georgia.

With Dyer backing off of his Carolina pledge, Shane Beamer’s program has five commitments in the 2026 cycle. 4-star safety J’Zavien Currence and 4-star offensive lineman Zyon Guiles headline the group. 4-star tight end Jamel Howse, 3-star linebacker/EDGE Keenan Britt, and 3-star offensive lineman Anthony Baxter round out the class.

Dyer is the third player to decommit from South Carolina from the class of 2026. 4-star linebacker and fellow Georgia native Rodney Colton and 4-star quarterback Landon Duckworth were the others.
USC is in the game with several other big-time cornerback prospects this cycle. 4-star recruits like Samari Matthews and Khary Adams have official visits set for this summer, and several other players at the position have expressed legitimate interest in the program.
