South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have less than three weeks before National Signing Day. (Remember when recruits signed in February?) The Early Signing Period begins Wednesday, December 4th, and the majority of teams’ high school recruiting classes will be completed by the time the Early Signing Period ends on Friday, December 6th. In the weeks leading up to NSD, GamecockCentral will profile each player in the 2025 recruiting class. Today, we will look at wide receiver Jayden Sellers.

What the rankings say: 3-star in On3 industry rankings, No. 834 nationally, No. 19 in South Carolina, No. 131 among all wide receivers; Jayden Sellers is a consensus 3-star prospect

Jayden Sellers, the younger brother of Gamecock starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers, isn’t just coming to South Carolina because his brother plays in Columbia. Nicknamed “Pup,” the younger Sellers can play, too.

The South Florence standout is small (listed at 5’11” and 170 pounds), but he actually uses his slight build to his advantage at times. On film, there are several instances in which he splits two tacklers by “getting small.” By dipping his already low center of gravity even closer to the ground, on multiple occasions, he made himself nearly impossible to tackle for tacklers who came in high.

Sellers is fast, but he’s not just a straight-line sprinter. He has good quickness and burst that allows him to exploit poor defensive pursuit angles. He also claims to run the 40-yard dash somewhere in the 4.3s. If he is close to that fast, he could find a role in the Gamecock offense somewhere down the line.

Sellers has the tools to become an elite route-runner at the next level. With some coaching from NFL veteran (and current Gamecock wide receiver coach) Mike Furrey, perhaps he can reach that potential. He also could be a special teams contributor at USC thanks to his speed and abilities as a return man.

Because of his size, he could use some physical development. However, Sellers will be one of at least five freshman receivers coming into the program next season to replace at least three outgoing seniors. That means there will be some playing time available at the position. At least one of the youngsters likely will be part of the rotation next year.

If Pup Sellers sees the field early in his career, every fan will be rooting for a brother-to-brother touchdown connection. Jayden and LaNorris will get at least one year (and up to three years) together in garnet and black.

Sellers is one of ten in-state prospects to commit to the South Carolina football so far in the class of 2025. Right now, he also is one of three in-state wide receivers, joining Malik Clark and Jordon Gidron. With more pass-catching help potentially joining the class before Signing Day, this crop of receivers could be one of the best ever to sign with the Gamecocks.
