South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have less than three weeks before National Signing Day. (Remember when recruits signed in February?) The Early Signing Period begins Wednesday, December 4th, and the majority of teams’ high school recruiting classes will be completed by the time the Early Signing Period ends on Friday, December 6th. In the weeks leading up to NSD, GamecockCentral will profile each player in the 2025 recruiting class. Today, we will look at EDGE Kobby Sakyi-Prah.

Kobby Sakyi-Prah is an intriguing prospect in South Carolina’s 2025 class. He’s not overly big for an EDGE player (6’3″ and 210 pounds listed size), but he’s athletic and long. He also possesses the type of frame that should add weight easily and effectively.

Sakyi-Prah has played all over the defense for his Roswell High School (Roswell, Georgia) squad. While he profiles as an EDGE player (and has been recruited as such), he also has gotten a lot of snaps at defensive tackle and at linebacker during his career. Most of his senior snaps have come at stand-up EDGE, but he also has put his hand in the dirt and played some as an outside ‘backer.

As a player, Sakyi-Prah has a lot of athletic upside. He flashes on film as a player who sometimes looks like he’s been shot from a cannon at the snap. When he pins his ears back and gets after the quarterback, he has impressive “get-off” and beats high school offensive tackles in just a step or two. Against the run, he’s got some potential, and he is comfortable “playing slow” and shedding blockers as he diagnoses plays.

Sakyi-Prah will have to add weight before he can play defensive end in the SEC. However, he has enough size and athleticism to provide some pass-rush-only juice early in his Gamecock career if needed. His ability to run and tackle also could make him a natural fit on special teams before he bulks up.

One of three prospects from the Peach State committed in the class (AJ Holloway and Chris Hatfield are the others), Kobby Sakyi-Prah also is one of several hybrid defensive end/linebackers in the class. The Gamecocks will have plenty of competition in Sterling Lucas and Clayton White’s position rooms. If things go well for Sakyi-Prah, he is talented enough to earn a role at USC and become a very good college player.
