South Carolina football recruiting profiles: Jaquavious Dodd
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have about two weeks before National Signing Day. (Remember when recruits signed in February?) The Early Signing Period begins Wednesday, December 4th, and the majority of teams’ high school recruiting classes will be completed by the time the Early Signing Period ends on Friday, December 6th. In the weeks leading up to NSD, GamecockCentral will profile each player in the 2025 recruiting class. Today, we will look at EDGE player Jaquavious Dodd.
Jaquavious Dodd (4-star, EDGE, 6’5.5″, 235 pounds)
What the rankings say: 4-star in On3 industry rankings, No. 175 nationally, No. 3 in South Carolina, No. 22 among all EDGE players; Jaquavious Dodd is a 4-star prospect according to three of four recruiting services

Jaquavious Dodd is a big-time prospect. Listed at 6’5.5″ and 235 pounds, he has elite athletic potential. Dodd has a quick first step, solid bend, and a seemingly never-ending wingspan. Once he develops his body and his technique, Dodd figures to be a dangerous collegiate pass rusher.
Also a basketball player, the Eastside High School product is still relatively new to football. Even with his late introduction to the game, Dodd still is a top-100 player in On3’s individual player rankings. He’s had his best showing as a senior and will play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas this winter.
As an EDGE, Dodd’s build suggests that rushing the passer will be his primary role at the college level. However, he has good straight-line speed and makes good plays chasing down ball carriers on the perimeter. He also, perhaps thanks to his basketball background, has a knack for getting his hands on passes at the line.

Dodd appears to be a high-energy teammate and selfless player. With the Gamecocks’ heavy rotation on defense, those traits will come in handy when he joins the South Carolina program.
Early playing time is not always easy to come by as a young player in the trenches. Dodd needs to add some weight and work with defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Sterling Lucas to refine his technique. If things go well for him, though, he could get some situational snaps as his position group will lose at least two players this offseason with Kyle Kennard and Gilber Edmond graduating.
Dodd is one of 11 Palmetto State natives in the 2025 South Carolina football recruiting class. He is the highest-rated commitment according to On3’s rankings and the second-highest in the On3 Composite behind in-state wide receiver Malik Clark.
