South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff have been sending out a lot of scholarship offers this spring. On Wednesday morning, a big-time in-state talent joined the class of 2027 offer list as Rock Hill defensive lineman Seth “RJ” Tillman announced his offer on social media following a visit to Gamecock practice this week.

A product of South Pointe High School and a younger teammate of class of 2026 commitments J’Zavien Currence and Anthony Baxter, Tillman is already a 4-star prospect as a high school sophomore. On3 ranks the talented defender No. 113 overall in the ’27 cycle, No. 11 among defensive linemen, and No. 3 among the Palmetto State natives in the class. Despite not having rankings yet from 247Sports and ESPN, Tillman is a top-200 player in the industry ranking, too.

USC isn’t the only school involved in Tillman’s recruitment, though. He recently took an unofficial visit to Clemson and has earned power conference offers from Texas A&M, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia Tech.

As a player, Tillman brings a lot to the table as a defensive lineman. Listed at 6-3 and 256 pounds, he primarily plays defensive tackle. However, he is athletic enough to kick to end in some situations and help out on offense at tight end. Tillman is a strong young player, and he is developing pass rush techniques that make him even harder to block. When he breaks through the line of scrimmage, he gets into the backfield quickly in pursuit of quarterbacks and ballcarriers.

The Football City, USA native also plays basketball, and you can see that experience show up in his quick feet. Tillman moves very well for a player his size. He also seems to have a frame that could comfortably add more weight without sacrificing his movement ability.

Former Gamecock defensive lineman Gerald Dixon is Tillman’s position coach and co-defensive coordinator at South Pointe. Current South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson was his defensive line teammate on the 11-win 2011 team at USC.
