It's announcement day for South Carolina DB target Zahbari Sandy
Around three weeks since releasing his final five schools, South Carolina football three-star safety target Zahbari Sandy is set to provide his mom with a memorable Mother’s Day when he announces his college school of choice on Sunday.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Laurel (Md.) native and Washington (D.C.) St. John’s class of 2023 standout has narrowed his list to five schools — South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and Maryland — and has taken unofficial visits to all of his finalists.
He also holds offers from Penn State, Louisville, Indiana, Boston College, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Virginia, Pitt and Kansas, among others.
Sandy, who is being recruited to Carolina by defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, last visited South Carolina for a spring football practice last month and was also in Columbia for the Gamecocks’ season finale against Clemson.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) gives South Carolina a 93.7 percent chance of landing Sandy. The On3 RPM uses predictions from industry experts, visit data, social media sentiment and historical outcomes on an AI platform to project the chances a player will attend a particular school.
If Sandy commits to South Carolina, he’ll be the Gamecocks’ first public pledge in the class of 2023.

Gamecocks transfer portal class continues to receive national recognition
South Carolina football’s 2022 transfer portal class was named the No. 5 “biggest winner” in the transfer portal this offseason by On3 on Friday.
That news came as On3 made a final and substantial update to its 2022 Transfer Portal Rankings following the May 1 deadline, which was the last day players could enter the portal and still be eligible to play this season at a new team.
The South Carolina incoming transfer who made the biggest jump in the new rankings is wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. who joined the Gamecocks in the spring after two incredibly productive seasons at James Madison.
