South Carolina offers freshman "all-name team" quarterback

On Wednesday, class of 2028 quarterback Wonderful Terrific Monds IV announced that South Carolina offered him a scholarship. Monds revealed the news on social media.
Nicknamed “Champ,” Monds is an impressive freshman who already stands 6-3 and weighs over 200 pounds. He is the first quarterback from the ’28 cycle to earn a Gamecock offer. While most outlets haven’t begun rating the freshmen group, Monds has a chance of becoming the top quarterback in his class. Recently, On3’s Charles Power included him as a name to watch at the position.
South Carolina has extended several freshman class offers in recent days. Like those other talented freshmen, Monds’ offer list is becoming extensive. Other big-time programs like Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Ohio State have gotten involved early in his recruitment.
Monds’ father played professional baseball, and his grandfather and uncle had short stints in the NFL.

Monds has ridiculous physical tools that help him live up to his name. (“Champ,” “Wonderful,” “Terrific,” take your pick.)

The Vero Beach High School product is a good athlete who can help out on the ground or use his mobility to buy extra time in the passing game. He’s also an effortless thrower of the football who slings darts 50+ yards downfield with a flick of his wrist. Monds can make those throws on the move and off-platform, too. He is a physical runner when he needs to be, but he also knows when to avoid getting hit.
As a 15-year-old freshman, Monds logged nearly 3000 yards of offense last season. He also registered 32 total touchdowns and just five interceptions. His efforts helped guide Vero Beach to the Regional Finals of the Florida state playoffs.
While much too early to compare Monds’ game to a player of the caliber of South Carolina starter LaNorris Sellers, his style of play does resemble the Gamecock QB a bit. He is big, strong, and athletic with an impressive arm and a strong football IQ. Despite his giftedness, he doesn’t rely on his running. Instead, he trusts himself as a passer and only takes off when the play or situation calls for it.
South Carolina has two scholarship quarterbacks on its roster who could still hold eligibility in the fall of 2028. Air Noland, who transferred this offseason from Ohio State, would be a redshirt senior if he is still in Columbia. Class of 2025 signee Cutter Woods would be a fourth-year player, either a true senior or redshirt junior. Of course, by that time, the Gamecocks likely will have signed multiple quarterbacks in the 2026 and 2027 classes.
