South Carolina football recruiting profiles: Cutter Woods
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have less than two weeks before National Signing Day. (Remember when recruits signed in February?) The Early Signing Period begins Wednesday, December 4th, and the majority of teams’ high school recruiting classes will be completed by the time the Early Signing Period ends on Friday, December 6th. In the weeks leading up to NSD, GamecockCentral will profile each player in the 2025 recruiting class. Today, we will look at quarterback Cutter Woods.
Cutter Woods (3-star, Quarterback, 6’2.5″, 195 pounds)

Cutter Woods, a former Wake Forest commitment, flipped to the home-state Gamecocks this summer. A product of Westside High School in Anderson, Woods is one of the most under-the-radar quarterbacks in the country. Last year, he led his Rams to their first state title since 1969. As the No. 1 Upper State seed in the SCHSL AAAA Playoffs, he could be on his way to repeat.
The current South Carolina football roster is expected to lose just one scholarship quarterback this offseason in Davis Beville. However, both Robby Ashford and part-time QB Luke Doty will be out of eligibility after 2025. Plus, LaNorris Sellers will become NFL Draft-eligible after next year. Because of the attrition possible over the next two years, finding a quality quarterback who eventually could compete with former 4-star Dante Reno was essential for the Gamecocks in this cycle. Woods fits the mold.
As a prospect, the Upstate kid combines production and possible upside. In three years as the full-time starter at Westside, Woods has eclipsed the 10,000-yard and 100-touchdown marks. He also has shown more ability as a dual-threat quarterback than his rushing totals would indicate.

Woods is comfortable making off-platform throws and has an advanced ability to step up in the pocket. He scrambles with the intention of finding an open receiver, something that has been a huge boon to the 2024 Gamecocks’ offense when done by LaNorris Sellers.
Playing time for Woods (and, frankly, for any other non-LaNorris Sellers quarterbacks on the roster) will be determined, in large part, by Sellers. The current Gamecock starter seems to have turned a corner and will be the starter until he moves on from the program to the NFL. Whenever that time comes, though, Woods will be part of the competition for the QB1 gig.
One of 11 Palmetto State natives in the South Carolina football recruiting class of 2025, Woods is the only quarterback pledge in the class.
