On Wednesday, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer put out the Gamecocks’ first player availability report ahead of the team’s road matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Then, less than 24 hours later, Beamer provided an update on his team’s health.

During his weekly call-in show with play-by-play man (and former quarterback) Todd Ellis, Beamer talked some about the ailing Gamecocks.

Per the Wednesday report, wide receiver Jared Brown, offensive lineman Jakai Moore, and defensive back Kelvin Hunter are “out” Saturday. Beamer then reiterated the same on Thursday. He told Ellis that Brown’s injury is a “lower-body” issue.

The Gamecock headman also addressed a pair of defenders listed as “doubtful” on Wednesday by changing DeAndre Jules’ and Jalewis Solomon’s status. After mentioning Jared Brown, Jakai Morre, and Kelvin Hunter, Beamer also called Jules and Solomon “out for Satuday.” The good news for the Gamecocks, though, is that Beamer then added that Jules’ issue is “short-term” and that he should be back next week against Oklahoma or the following week against Texas A&M.

Cornerback O’Donnell Fortune, wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs, and wide receiver Dalevon Campbell had “probable” by their names on Wednesday. Because of this, the Thursday update didn’t change much for the trio. Beamer told Todd Ellis, “Fortune and Campbell are good to go…fine for Saturday.” After the Ole Miss game last Saturday, Beamer called Campbell’s shoulder injury “significant.”

Coach Beamer did not mention Vandrevius Jacobs, but given his “probable” status, that likely is a good sign for his availability.

On the Alabama side of things, linebacker Yhonzae Pierre is the only player “out” for now. However, first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer labeled wide receivers Kendrick Law and Kobe Prentice as “questionable.”

The SEC recently approved a player availability injury report system for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.

SEC school personnel must submit availability reports three days before each football game, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports are filed the night before, with an update on game day.

According to the SEC, penalties for inaccurate or late reports will range from $25,000 to $100,000 for football and anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000 for basketball and baseball.

When schools submit injury reports, players will be designated as available, probable, doubtful, and questionable before game day. On game day, designations will be available, game-time decision or out. The model follows injury reports similar to the NFL.

South Carolina and Alabama will kick off at noon on Saturday on ABC, ESPN+, and the ESPN app.
