South Carolina coordinator Pete Lembo leaving for head coaching position
South Carolina Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Pete Lembo is set to become the next head coach at Buffalo, according to published reports on Sunday morning.
247Sports national reporter Matt Zenitz is reporting that Lembo is “expected” to become the next head coach at the University of Buffalo.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel has also reported that Buffalo is targeting Lembo as its next head coach.
UPDATED: Lembo has officially been named the head coach by Buffalo.
GamecockCentral.com has previously reported that Lembo was heavily in the mix for the position. On Sunday morning, it was also learned that Lembo is set to meet with his current South Carolina specialists early in the afternoon.
One of Shane Beamer’s critical hires after landing the head coaching position at South Carolina, Lembo has been instrumental in the build of the program.

USC’s perenially been among the best special teams units in the country in the three years under Lembo.
The Staten Island, New York native has plenty of past experience running his own program. He is familiar with the MAC, having served as Ball State’s head coach from 2011 until 2015.
Prior to that, he was the head football coach at both Lehigh and Elon. During his career, Lembo has tallied a 112-65 mark as a head coach.
