South Carolina duo makes another Freshman All-American squad

On Friday, ESPN veteran college football writer Tom Luginbill released his 2024 True Freshman All-American team. Two Gamecocks made the cut.

To the surprise of no one, EDGE Dylan Stewart was one of Luginbill’s five defensive linemen. Stewart finished the regular season with 6.5 sacks (he’s 1.5 away from tying Jadeveon Clowney’s freshman Gamecock record) and was top 10 nationally in total quarterback hurries.
The future 1st round NFL Draft selection has earned spots on every Freshman All-American team out there. As he continues to improve—especially against the run—Stewart could become one of the best EDGE players in recent college football memory.
Joining Stewart on ESPN’s True Freshman All-American team is South Carolina’s other class of 2024 5-star prospect. Offensive tackle Josiah Thompson earned the starting left tackle job in the preseason and never looked back. He started all 11 games in which he was healthy and got better as the season went along.
Big No. 74 had some of his best moments during USC’s six-game winning streak. That was no coincidence. Fans should expect Thompson to develop into a legitimate anchor on the left side of the Carolina line. Like Stewart, Thompson made other True Freshman All-American teams, as well.

Though not eligible for True Freshman All-American inclusion, redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers picked up some freshman team buzz from other outlets. Following an up-and-down start to the year, the Florence native emerged as a true superstar and posted the best single-month quarterback showing in program history this November. It was no surprise that the young QB earned the SEC Freshman of the Year distinction from both the AP and the league’s coaches. He also is one of the early favorites for the 2025 Heisman Trophy.

South Carolina’s brightest future stars hope to send the team’s seniors out on a high note. The Gamecocks will meet up with the Illinois Fighting Illini on Tuesday in the Citrus Bowl. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m., and ABC will broadcast the game while ESPN+ streams it.
